We use a billboard – the symbol of the modern age consumption – and change it into an object of consideration, reflection and a deep insight into ourselves and the surrounding reality.

Mural I am

Mobile mural is an original project of the artistic duet from the Rusz Gallery. The artists from Toruń, Joanna Górska and Rafał Góralski, again set out on their journey across the Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeship. This time, the artists put an emphasis on the words “I am”, pointing to the fact that we are living, working and creating here and now. The project consisted in inviting the inhabitants of Toruń, Bydgoszcz, Grudziądz, Inowrocław and Włocławek to create the mobile mural “I AM” together. The artists prepared a mobile wall, 8.3 m wide and over 2 m high, with a relaxing colouring picture, inspired by folk motives of our region – Kuyavian embroideries – and large letters making up the words I AM. In each of the cities the participants of the action filled one letter with their answers to the question “Who Am I?” and coloured the motives around a given letter. In this way the participants were thinking about and sharing their reflections on their own identity, on what makes them strong and defines them. The action resulted in an inspiring colourful mural, uniting the inhabitants of our voivodeship and promoting positive values, necessary for the development of every single person and the entire region: cooperation, creativity, and innovativeness. The participants had a lot of ideas for defining themselves but they had to choose only one of them. The answers to the question “Who Am I?” included, among others: myself, a grandma, a mum, a patient, a dwarf, a brother, a seven-year-old girl, a swimmer, a sportsman, a music fan, an IT specialist, a friend, a person.

The project was co-financed from the budget of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
