Mural in Płock
Galeria Rusz were invited to create a huge (120 m long and covering an area of 250 square metres) colourful mural on the fence of the ZOO in Płock. It refers to experiencing the world of nature through all of our senses.
This project emerged from the modern idea of contemporary ZOOS as places of great importance for nature conservation and the survival of endangered species. Artists really liked the idea of the ZOO in Płock: “Perceiving zoos only as sites of entertainment is outdated. The vision of contemporary zoos reflects their real role in activities undertaken to protect wild species, promote the idea of nature conservation, carry out scientific research, and extensively educate people in protecting wild species and their role in ecosystems.”
We strongly agree with this quotation, says Rafał Góralski, co-author of the idea of this mural. We put emphasis on “experiencing through different senses”, and also through “the sense” of reason – experiencing the world of nature through various senses and at various levels leads to joy, fascination and, ultimately, to the willingness to protect this endangered world. In our opinion, this is a fantastic form of modern education.
