We use a billboard – the symbol of the modern age consumption – and change it into an object of consideration, reflection and a deep insight into ourselves and the surrounding reality.

The like installation

The project of the interactive “I LIKE” art installation consisted in presenting huge, colourful letters making the phrase I LIKE. The letters were three-dimensional, 2.20 m high and 10 m wide. They were displayed in Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Inowrocław and Kruszwica. The action began on 1 June 2015 in Toruń, in front of the Marshall Office, and then it was repeated in 4 cities of our region.

The artists from the Rusz Gallery invited the inhabitants of our voivodeship to co-create the phrase I LIKE. The participants could choose from among different possibilities: I like my city, my life, being myself, being here, my friends, my family, my job. This allowed them to express what mattered to them, what they would like to devote their time to and what they would like to focus their positive energy on. They could also put their own ideas on the letters of the phrase I LIKE.

The actions resulted in a unique image of what the inhabitants of our region like, what is important to them and what they want to be involved in. The most common phrase was “I like my family”, then “I like my friends”, “being myself” and “being here”. There were also answers written by hand – the youngest participants of the action wrote they liked blocks, playing, holidays, Santa Claus, animals (dogs, cats, spiders, horses), singing, dancing and playing. A bit older ones wrote they liked spending their time with their family, the sea, mountains, looking at the stars, etc. A total of over 700 people participated in the actions.

The event was co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Programme of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2007-2013 and the Kuyavian-Pomeranian budget.
